Evelyn stepped off the elevator onto the floor of the hotel where her daughter was staying as she tracked her daughter’s phone. The girl was just like her father and always had to have her way. Not this time. She knew the child well enough that she would be waiting out at least one of the Holden boys, though she herself had only found the youngest. She’d gotten lucky with one of the waitstaff who delivered room service had confirmed a photo of Allyson the night before and the room number. One call and she had the name of the couple, prompting her to show up early and write a note with instructions. She slid the note under a door as she passed it on her way to her destination. Evelyn checked her watched and knocked on the door of room fourteen twenty.

The door was flung open. “Mother what are you doing here?” She returned to the bathroom leaving the door open.

“Checking on my daughter, is that a crime?” Evelyn entered the room, closing the door behind her. A noise in the hall had her checking the peephole as four people filed out of the room.
